Nestled at the top of Baffin Island, Pond Inlet feels like Earth's last secret. This remote Inuit hamlet, home to about eighteen hundred souls, thrives where mountains plunge into icy fjords and the Arctic Ocean whispers ancient tales. Ninety-two percent of residents are Inuit, their lives woven into the land through traditions like qamutik rides across snow and Narwhal hunts at dawn. Caribou skins dry on racks outside color-washed homes, while kids race sleds down drifts after school. But reaching here? It's no joke. No roads lead in-just a bumpy flight from Iqaluit, weather-permitting, on a twin-engine prop over endless white. One storm and you're grounded for days, sipping coffee in a hangar, watching clouds dance. Still, when the skies clear and your plane skims those razor-sharp peaks, heart races. The mountains glow rose-gold under summer sun that never sets, and turquoise waters cradle icebergs drifting like slow ghosts. Walk the pebble beach at dusk; seals pop up, curious, and keeping a sharp lookout for Polar Bears. Elders carve soapstone in co-op workshops, turning myths into mini sculptures. Truly, one of the most beautiful lands I have ever seen.
