Specific fantasies often include the narcissistic individual experiencing more acceptance of their fantasy, more positive reactions in their fantasies, and fewer fantasies that take place in the present. The imaginings of tomorrow are more promising for the narcissist than what’s happening today. Breakdown into two fantasy types: 1. Omnipotent fantasies 2. Passive fantasies The purpose of these fantasies is to regulate their self-esteem. Narcissistic would example. In particular, individuals along narcissistic spectrum tend to see themselves as experiencing higher levels of daily stress tend to experience 1. power and revenge fantasies 2. self-admiration fantasies It has also been found that individuals along narcissistic spectrum also have fantasies in which they’re the victims of deprivation and pain (more of a covert narcissistic style fantasy). Treatment to address these issues would include reality-based treatment in conjunction with stress management techniques. Insight will be most challenging, and keeping the individual in treatment long enough to benefit from the treatment. Daniel J.
