The temple has been constructed from 1112CE The Temple is famous for its annual Ratha Yatra or Charriot Festival in which three Principal deities are pulled on huge by devotees.The chariot festival is celebrated in between June/ july and include a procession of three huge chariots bearing the three goddess through Bada Danda ,a grand Avenue of PURI until their final destination the Gundicha Temple. The main festivals of Jagannath Temple are Ratha Yatra, Chandan Yatra,Snana Yatra, Nabakalebara . Maha Prabhu Jagannath, elder brother Balabhadra and sister Devi Subhadra are a trip of deities worshipped at the temple and they are sacred from Neem logs known as Daru sitting on ratnabedi along with deities of Sudarshana Chakra, Madanmohan, Sridevi & Vishwadharti and many more history are about to know Lord Jagannath it's a story mentioned in the Mahabharata and the puranas. The temple's kitchen is the largest in the world and traditions hold that all Mahaprasad Avada cooking in the temple kitchen is supervised by the Goddess Mahalakshmi ( wife of Jagannath).And everyday 56 varieties of food produced are vegetarian & prepared without Onions, garlic.Cooking is done only in earthen pots using water drawn from two special wells near the kitchen called Ganga & Yamuna.After being offered to Jagannath & the 33 Crore deities, the food is sold at Ananda Bajara,an open food market inside the Temple .
