Michelle Vacciana is an independent artist who has also worked formally for many years in educational institutions as an arts practitioner and tutor. Alongside this Vacciana has worked extensively in alternative forums that look to support people who struggle with institutional conforms and who sit within the margins or are at risk of social isolation and exclusion. Vacciana is now taking a step back from formal work. As whilst this work has been valuable and transformative, she feels it has inadvertently eclipsed her personal engagement with her own artistic practice and aspirations. Vacciana is currently diving into her biggest and boldest piece of work to date and trust that once fully realised, it will still retain educational threads with the benefit of articulating itself via a musical and theatrical form. Following the success of 100 Black Women Who Have Made A Mark, Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage is delighted to launch a new project for 2026; Making the Invisible Visible: Black Women 365 Days of the Year. Each day will showcase a different woman, whose story has shaped Black British or global Diasporic history; many of whom remain overlooked or under-celebrated in mainstream narratives. This will take the form of a rolling programme of short films, released throughout the year to keep these stories in daily circulation and to create an evolving constellation of leadership, resistance, artistry and enduring impact.
