Written and presented by historian Ronald Fairfax, this nostalgic documentary explores Beverley's past through archive footage and historical film. The documentary features rare material from pioneering local filmmaker Ernest Symmons, who used hand-cranked and clockwork cameras to capture everyday life in this historic East Yorkshire market town. Fairfax guides viewers through the spectacular 1937 historical pageant recreating Beverley's thousand-year history, the town's medieval right of sanctuary, and the once-thriving leather tanning industry. The film explores the Blackburn Beverley aircraft, the 1954 filming of "Lease of Life" at the Minster, and showcases Symmons' 1945 road safety film "Man with a Notebook," concluding with footage from the Walkington Victorian Hayride charity event in 1992 and 1993. A window into Beverley as it used to be. Written and presented by Ronald Fairfax. Digitised and uploaded for archival purposes by Memory Keep.
