CAMPGround26 Continues with CONCERT 4 at The Steinway Gallery Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 10:00 AM The Steinway Gallery | Tampa, FL CAMPGround26, the international new music festival presented by CAMP and directed by Eunmi Ko, concludes its three-day celebration of adventurous contemporary music (March 5–7, 2026) with CONCERT 4 at The Steinway Gallery on Saturday, March 7 at 10:00 AM. Across the festival, CAMPGround26 presents 20–25 compositions and world premieres, embracing diverse aesthetics, media, and international voices. Following immersive installations, new monodramas, multimedia works, and ensemble premieres, Concert 4 brings an intimate and expressive morning program centered on saxophone, piano, voice, and chamber dialogue. Concert 4 Highlights The program opens with Better Than One by James Larkins, performed by saxophonist Katherine Weintraub. The work confronts a compositional anxiety about two-movement forms—questions of balance, proportion, and difference. Rather than smoothing irregularities, Larkins embraces imbalance: one movement contains almost nothing, the other almost too much. The result is a lopsided yet deliberate meditation on form, social structure, and the tension between flattening and multiplicity. Pianist Eunmi Ko, festival director and a central artistic force of CAMPGround26, performs E U R Y D I C E by Alex Burtzos. Inspired by the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice and Thomas Hardy’s poem The Voice, the work unfolds as a series of echoing gestures—distant calls that grow increasingly insistent before cascading into shimmering release. The piece captures longing, memory, and the fragile resonance between presence and absence. In Caesium Tears, Chicago-based composer and saxophonist Phil Pierick joins Katherine Weintraub and violinist Sini Virtanen for a haunting exploration of sound and chemistry. Named after the rare element that liquefies near body temperature, the piece entwines double-stopped violin harmonics with saxophone dyad multiphonics, weaving microtonal inflections into a shared, ever-evolving lament. The concert concludes with Les chants du déversoir by French-American composer Jean-Patrick Besingrand, settings of “minute” poems by Arthur Teboul. Performed by soprano Jamie Jordan and pianist Eunmi Ko, the cycle comprises five songs and two micro-interludes shaped by free-writing technique. Musical sketches evolve like freehand drawings, capturing immediacy while exploring the shifting relationship between voice and piano—at times searching, clashing, blending, and echoing the construction of the text itself. From formal imbalance to mythic echoes, from microtonal tears to poetic immediacy, CONCERT 4 offers a reflective and resonant close to CAMPGround26. Over three days, CAMPGround26 transforms Tampa into a vibrant hub of contemporary sound, presenting international composers, multiple world premieres, newly commissioned works, and boundary-crossing performances.
