These bubbles are fun and forgiving! In this watercolor painting video I show you how to use a technique called negative painting to create dimension and depth for 3D-looking bubbles. A lot of people talk about how relaxing this kind of painting technique is, and it's perfect if you've got a lot on your mind and you just want to zone out. Here's what you need: Some different sized circular objects you can trace (or a circle stencils) Watercolor paint (I used MGraham watercolors, mostly blue/green colors and some black) Watercolor paper (I used Arches 100% cotton cold pressed) Watercolor brushes, a pointier one and a rounder one. (I used Silver Black Velvet sized 10 and Lowell Cornell size 4 round). Glass of water Bleedproof White (I used Dr. Martin's). You can also substitute for a white gel pen, white gouache, or in a pinch white acrylic paint (although not ideal). White Gel pen. (I like Uniball Signo brand, but in this video I used Gelly Roll brand since I'm out of the Signo). General Steps: 1. Get your whole paper wet, drop in color (keep it light). Let dry. 2. Trace a few circles, then paint around them with another layer of your colors. Let dry. 3. Draw more circles behind the ones you have, and then paint around those. Use some of your color to add roundish brush strokes on your circles. Let it all dry. 4. Keep layering and adding brush strokes to the bubbles until you are satisfied, and use black (or close to it) as the very last layer you add. 5. Re-outline any circles whose shape got a little lost, and add bleedproof white onto your bubbles. 6. Add tiny white bubbles and you are done! I would love to see what you do with this tutorial!
