Welcome to Start Line Stay!

Start Line Stay is about my personal experiences, thoughts, and journey as a dog owner and as a handler on Team Kai, my dog agility team. Kai is my male Border Collie, and he is the first dog I have ever had on my own. When I got Kai as a two-month-old puppy, I did not know anything about training dogs or becoming a good dog owner, so I decided to attend a local puppy training class. Completing the puppy obedience class led to an opportunity to enroll in the Dog Agility 101 class. Ever since we attended our first day of class, Kai was hooked. He loved going over, through, and across obstacles. And I was hooked on watching the joy and excitement Kai showed. Since our very first day of dog agility, we both knew we wanted to keep going. The sport of dog agility is truly a team sport. We build our trust and connection through everyday life, and that relationship you have built with your dog is the key to success when navigating through 20+ obstacles while running full speed through a course. As a novice handler in the world of dog agility, there are so many things I have already learned, but in order to show Kai’s true potential, I always have to be improving as a handler. Being involved in dog agility has changed my life. Not only have I been able to travel to attend competitions and meet other dog lovers, I’ve also been able to gain new perspectives by learning to see through a dog’s viewpoint. Kai has shaped a big part of who I am, what I value, and how I want to live. So on the Start Line Stay channel, come along with me as I document and share my journey with Kai, the progress I’m making as a handler, and myself as a person.
