Most of my pickups tend to fall into a familiar lane — Mays, Seaver, Mathewson. This one doesn’t. In this video, I’m sharing a recent pickup that sits outside my usual focus, but fits perfectly into a larger project I’ve been working on — highlighting and celebrating players from the New York Cubans and Cuban Stars East, particularly during their years playing at Dyckman Oval Field in New York. The card features Oscar Levis, a Negro Leagues pitcher whose story connects Jamaica and New York, and the early history of professional baseball. Following MLB’s recognition of the Negro Leagues, Levis is now officially recognized as the first Jamaican-born player to appear in Major League Baseball history — a detail that makes this card far more than just a rare pickup. This video isn’t about grades or hype. It’s about preserving stories, places, and players that deserve to be remembered. Thanks for watching.
