From Chassis to Camper. Now that the chassis is rolling, it’s time to build the bones of the living space. In Episode 2, we’re fabricating the upper framework that will support the skin, the roof-top tent, and all our internal cabinetry. Building the upper frame is a balancing act: it needs to be rigid enough to withstand thousands of miles of rough roads, but light enough to keep our center of gravity low. Technical breakdown of this phase: Material Choice: Why I’m using 25mm angle and 25mm box in areas that need the structural strength to save weight without sacrificing strength. Fridge Slider: Worked on getting the fridge cupboard built to house the Dometic 75L fridge freezer. The Vertical Build: Squaring the uprights to the chassis and ensuring structural rigidity. Cooking segment: It was time to treat the boys to some smashed burgers. Need to quickly fab up a smasher. Designing the Openings: Pre-framing for the side doors, rear galley / kitchen hatch, and window cutouts. Smashed Burger ingredients: 1lb bacon, diced 1 white onion, diced Double shot of Espresso or 1/4 cup black coffee 2-3 tbsp apple cider vinegar 1/4 brown sugar Salt and Pepper Raspberries Burger: 4oz beef balls Thinly sliced jalapeños Cheese Brioche buns Cream cheese Bacon Jam Stay tuned for Episode 3 where we finish of the Framework and get it painted!
