Origin: Portugal Original title: " As Sete Mulheres Do Minho" (The Seven Women from Minho) Artist: Azeituna Album: "Percursos" (2009) During the 19th century, the reign of Queen Mary II of Portugal was plagued by discord and revolts, and as early as 1836, when members of the opposition from Porto arrived in Lisbon, the September Revolution took place and The Portuguese Constitution of 1822 was proclaimed (a more liberal constitution in which the king didn't have much power to act), followed by an attempted Coup d'état against it. In 1842, after the restoration of The Charter of 1826 (a more conservative charter in which the king had a wide power of action), the leader of the constitutionalist movement, António Costa Cabral, entered the government as the minister of the kingdom, thus beginning the Cabralista regime, which many considered despotic at the time. On the other hand, there was a demographic increase and the space inside the churches had become saturated, forcing burials to take place in spaces past the legal time limit. This situation began to get unbearable and also contributed to a public health problem, especially for those who used to go into the church every day to practise their religion. The Cabralista government therefore passed new health laws, which prohibited burials inside churches. As a counter-reaction, in the spring of 1846 there was a popular uprising against the Cabral's government, which resulted from the social tensions left over from the liberal wars, exacerbated by the great popular discontent caused by the new military recruitment laws that followed, tax changes and the new health laws. This group was famously initiated made up of women, led by Maria da Fonte (named so because she was from Fonte Arcada). It was during the Maria da Fonte's revolt that the maestro Ângelo Frandoni composed a popular hymn, known as the Maria da Fonte anthem or the Anthem of Minho, but the version that I am presenting here is the anthem sung in the streets by the people. °.•*𒆜☬༒꧂ Origem: Portugal Título original: "As Sete Mulheres Do Minho" Artista: Azeituna Álbum: "Percursos" (2009) Durante o século XIX, o reinado de D. Maria II de Portugal foi abundante de discórdias e revoltas, e logo em 1836 por ocasião da chegada de deputados oposicionistas do Porto a Lisboa, tinha-se feito a revolução de Setembro e proclamado a constituição de 1822 (constituição mais liberal, no qual o rei não tinha uma ampla capacidade de atuação), seguida por uma tentativa de golpe de estado contra esta. Em 1842, após a restauração da carta de 1826 (carta mais conservadora no qual o rei tinha uma ampla capacidade de atuação), o chefe do movimento constitucionalista, António Costa Cabral, entra no governo como ministro do reino, iniciando assim o regime Cabralista, por muitos então considerado despótico. Por outro lado, notava-se um crescente aumento demográfico e o espaço no interior da igreja a ficar saturado, obrigando a que se fizesse enterramentos em espaços sem que o tempo determinado por lei tivesse decorrido. Esta situação começou a tornar-se insuportável, contribuindo também para um problema de saúde pública, sobretudo para quem diariamente se deslocava ao interior da igreja na sua pratica religiosa. Assim sendo, o governo Cabralista, fez aprovar novas leis da saúde, proibindo a realização de enterros dentro de igrejas. Como contrarreação, na primavera de 1846 ocorre uma revolta popular contra o governo de Cabral, que resultou das tensões sociais remanescentes das guerras liberais, exacerbadas pelo grande descontentamento popular gerado pelas novas leis de recrutamento militar que lhe seguiram, por alterações fiscais e as novas leis de saúde. Este grupo foi notoriamente composto por mulheres, lideradas por Maria da Fonte (assim chamada por ser de Fonte Arcada). Foi durante a revolta da Maria da Fonte, que o maestro Ângelo Frandoni compôs o hino popular ou hino da Maria da Fonte, contudo, esta versão que aqui apresento trata-se do hino cantada nas ruas pelo povo.
