Brazing bike frames is just one of the things that gets us out of bed every morning and into the workshop. This video is in our In The Workshop playlist, so if you like it, check them out here • In The Workshop In this video, find out how we fixed this classic Carlton bike frame. The customer who brought this in, hasn't been able to get his mudguard or rear brake to fit properly since day one and this frame is over 60 year old! So that's a long time to put up with it! The brake bridge on the 1960s Carlton frame was fitted a little bit too low, so we removed it and brazed a new one in slightly higher, so the mudguard (fender for if you live across the pond!) and rear brake fitted better. Chapters 00:00 Introduction 01:44 Stripping the frame down 02:00 Putting it on the faceplate 03:14 Removing the old bridge 04:38 Cutting the mitre for brake bridge 08:33 Brazing the bridge in 11:47 The brake and mudguard fits! Here at Ellis Briggs we love working on classic and vintage bicycles. After all, we've been working on them now since 1936! I'm Paul Gibson, head framebuilder here at Ellis Briggs. If you're the owner of a classic bike that needs work, don't despair! In this video, we'll show you how we repaired this frame using traditional framebuilding and restoration techniques.
