In an interview with ITV News on Wednesday 19 March, the 25 year old Algerian addressed the online vitriol she experienced during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games last year over her gender eligibility. She said: “Even my mother was deeply affected. She was going to the hospital almost every day. My relatives were also impacted, and the entire Algerian people felt the weight of the situation”. She also addressed comments made by people like Elon Musk and JK Rowling, who spread the false claim that she was a “man” who “enjoyed the distress of punching a woman in the head”. Khelif said: “They were speaking about me without having any verified facts… they were speaking just for the sake of it”. But Imane Khelif’s biggest challenge is against the new US President Donald Trump. In February, while signing an executive order banning transgender women from female sports, Trump called Khelif a “male boxer”. “And who could forget last year's Paris Olympics, where a male boxer stole the woman's gold medal after brutalizing his female opponent so viciously that she had to forfeit just after 46 seconds, and she was a championship fighter… But all of that ends today because with this executive order, the war on women's sports is over.” In response, Imane Khelif said: “I will give you a straightforward answer: The US President issued a decision related to transgender people in America.I am not transgender.
