This first of its kind lecture discusses the split between the Eastern Orthodox and the modern Oriental Orthodox, which was in fact the first "Great Schism" in the history of the Church. This previously neglected point of contention has huge ramifications for ecumenical relations between dyophysites and monophysite/miaphysites, as both the history and canons (using sources from both sides) indicate that the schismatic side lacks authentic holy orders. Further, the consolidation of varying Non-Chalcedonian branches into a strong, Severian movement that would overtake the Chalcedonians and the influence of Islam is assessed. The knock on effects of the preceding are profound and far reaching, even touching the "True Orthodox" all the way into the 21st century.
