My first day in Lyon and decided to check out Les Puces du Canal - a very large brocante in Lyon. The brocante is open Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. I went on Thursday and several vendors were not there or their shop was shut, but quite a few other vendors were open. The challenge was getting there...there is road construction along the way, so the bus diverted 2 or 3 bus stops early from where I wanted to get off. That added about 15 minutes to the walk - it was a beautiful day for the end of July, but still about 30 minutes of dedicated walking to get to the brocante...and quite a bit of the walk was in direct sunshine. Ended up not buying anything at the brocante just because of the logistics of getting back to the hotel. Next time, I will check for what may be a longer commute, but there must have been some sort of bus stop nearby. Google maps focuses on the duration of the trip and not so much what minimizes the amount of walking. Afterwards, took the metro over to the Perrache train station and walked up Rue Victor Hugo to Place Bellecour. A stunning part of the city.
