It’s been another long night for Mervyn, shunting the old scrap metal trucks and taking out the empties. Driver Pete Spender takes over and is in charge of an ex-Liverpool Street loco, an L1 as dawn breaks over Birmingham. Parts have been machined and loaded into vans for far flung destinations across Britain. Mervyn takes the air and chats with the driver and guard of the New Street shuttle class 121 diesel. As lunchtime approaches the station awakens to the sound of the next shuttle service as the hustle and bustle of Birmingham can be heard all around.
