Stunning! Spectacular! Historic!! Just three of the words that were (deservedly) used to describe the Los Lunas, NM Museum of Heritage and Arts exhibition of Spanish Folk Art in early 2019. Titled "Ayer, Hoy y Manaña," the exhibit brought together extraordinary works of art from over 60 current artists. The curator, NIcolás Otero, wanted to share this exhibition with as many people as possible so he consented to do a guided tour of the works of art and to explain many of the elements that make the pieces so extraordinary. You will learn about the most common art forms: carvings, retablos (painted panels), straw applique, tinwork, as well as weaving, jewelry, pottery, metalwork, and furniture making. This highly engaging tour will awe you with the beauty and exceptional attention to detail that each artist poured into his or her work. Once you have finished the video you are welcome to watch the two companion videos too. One features a panel with four of the artists speaking about their art and careers. The other is a behind-the-scenes discussion with Nicolás Otero as he describes the work that went into creating the exhibition. You can also contact the museum using information at the end of the video to order the full-color catalog that shows many of the works of art plus biographies of the artists.
