Jumping Oak Gall Wasps

Look on the ground under that oak tree. You'll see thousands of tiny jumping beans bouncing around like popping popcorn. The hatching of Cynipid Wasps is a strange phenomena indeed and this video, set to my piano playing, shows you the unique relationship between plant and insect that creates this unusual event. To capture and amplify the sound of the jumping galls, I scooped up a bunch of them and placed them on a bodhran (open back Irish drum). I then placed a sensitive shotgun condenser microphone (Shure LensHopper) under the drum to capture and dub in the rain like audio.
