When it time to look for a replacement clutch for your Light Duty Truck, you have many options. This educational video outlines the various Clutches option available from SACHS based on the vehicle's day to day usage. In this video, we are going to talk about some of the truck upgrade clutch kit options available in the SACHS clutch product line, and the preferred method to break in your new clutch. In addition to the OE replacement clutch kit, SACHS offers three different clutch kits for light and medium duty trucks: heavy duty, ceramic button and Kevlar. The base kit is composed of the OE clutch system and is suited to be a direct substitute for the original clutch, offering the same performance. If you are running a stock setup and are towing within the vehicles rated capacity, this kit may be for you. If you are towing loads slightly more THAN the vehicle's rated capacity, our HD kit is a good choice. Our HD set features a premium friction material with a steel backed lining. This helps increase durability and heat dissipation, leading to a longer service life. Pedal feel, engagement /disengagement and launchability are going to feel closer to stock than Ceramic Button or Kevlar. Our Ceramic Button set is suited for extreme towing needs or work truck setups. The Ceramic Button material increases torque carrying capacity and copes with heat much better than an organic material. Towing performance is increased greatly when compared to organic, but the tradeoff is in the clutch feel. Ceramic button discs tend to ENGAGE/DISENGAGE MORE SHARPLY than organic, with the clutch pedal acting more like an on/off switch than a dial. This brings us to our Kevlar set. Kevlar provides BETTER pulling capabilities than organic, while having better engagement properties than a ceramic button disc. Kevlar allows for smooth clutch engagement which allows for prolonged life of universal joints, differential gears, and other driveline components. The major cost benefit savings of kevlar, aside from less downtime, is that all of the friction wear surfaces will show little or no wear compared to clutches using other friction materials. Regardless of what type of clutch you choose, please allow the new set an opportunity to break in. We recommend 200 to 300 miles of mild STOP-AND-GO driving to help break in the clutch. Repeated low stress engagements allow the pressure plate, disc and flywheel to wear and make full surface contact. This will ensure that you have full torque carrying capability when it is needed. In summary, compared to stock, the Heavy Duty kit offers slightly better towing capabilities while maintaining pedal feel -- this is good for enthusiast or recreational applications. Ceramic button offers the best towing capabilities, with a more direct pedal feel and is great for work truck setups.
