Breast Implant Illness and bilateral breast cancer survivor Dawn Ann shares a small part of her story with Channel 6 and 8 News. After years of debilitating pain and sickness that was blamed on chemotherapy and cancer treatment, she decided to remove her breast implants in hopes that some of her muscle spasms, and moving ribs would improve. After being told by an entire team of various specialists that her “safe” implants were not the cause, she was surprised to have miraculous improvements in her health upon removal. Some on the very day of explant, and others like chronic hypertension, vanished after less than a year after explanting. She has joined forces with other BII survivors with similar health complications and diagnosis from Michigan, and across the country to implement legislation that will allow patients to have true informed consent prior to making a life changing medical decision that could have lifelong side effects and chronic systemic health conditions. Patients deserve the right to have the information to make informed decisions available BEFORE any surgery. Breast implants have been known to cause sickness, depression, chronic inflammatory conditions, and autoimmune issues over the course of many years, and BII is acknowledged by the FDA. The truth is everywhere. When will this madness stop? When will patient lives be more important than the profits? Dawn has drastically improved, but still faces many chronic health conditions. She continues to advocate for this, and other health related causes.
