Every year the American Coaster Enthusiasts hold a National Preservation Conference, a weekend long event focusing on smaller or historic parks. 2023’s event was held in New York City, with the first day being held at Playland Park in Rye, NY (commonly known as Rye Playland). This nearly 100-year old park has several classic rides such as the Ye Old Mill dark ride, the Derby Racer, and the classic wooden coaster Dragon Coaster. Our day was a bit of a rainy one, so the park was absolutely empty, allowing us to get plenty of rides with zero waits, along with getting a behind-the scenes tour of the Dragon Coaster.
