Welcome, everyone! I’m Carrie, and I’m so glad you’re here today. In this workshop, we’re diving into how to study an artist’s style deeply and apply their techniques to inspire your own art. This is a thank you to everyone who has showed up and supported Artist Strong here on YouTube, especially in the past year. We’ve grown over 5000 strong! Periodically I hope to run these workshops that you choose as a way to thank you for showing up. Today, we’ll focus on Gustav Klimt—an iconic Austrian Symbolist painter. We’ll break down his style and, most importantly, learn how to use these insights in your creative process. I didn’t choose this artist - someone in the community did. But here’s the good news: even if you aren’t a fan, you can use this same approach to any artist you admire. So while we go through this workshop today you have the choice to work with me while we focus on Klimt, or follow along with an artist you prefer. Here’s what you’ll gain today: Tools to analyze an artist’s style. Ways to research their influences and context. Tips to translate what you’ve learned into your work without losing your unique voice. Here’s what you need today: Art materials to play with (I recommend in a sketchbook or small paper or canvas). A place to take notes A computer to watch and look up images for your selected artist. Image references you might want to use. So let’s get started!
