Alexander the Great was given a pet dog in his youth, which he named Peritas. Ever since, tales have been told of Peritas' heroic deeds, ranging from dragging Alexander from harm's way at the Battle of Gaugamela all the way to taking down an elephant itself. While ancient sources are unclear whether or not Peritas did indeed do these things, this beloved Macedonian pet doggo inspired many more tales of canine courage, from other Hellenistic Hounds to Scooby Doo. In this video I have a look at the 'true' Peritas, as well as some of the other incredible dogs Alexander encountered and utilized throughout his campaigns.
