Eight Sleep launched their new Eight Sleep Pod 5 Ultra, and this time not just the surface of the mattress is cooled or heated, but the blanket itself is now also integrated into the system and completely temperature controlled. And as always, this is done separately for each side of the bed, so if your partner sleeps much warmer or cooler than you, each of you can set your own temperature. In addition, you also get some of the best sleep tracking out there, as you will see in a moment in my scientific testing. But first some important background. There are 3 different versions of the Pod 5 available: there is the normal Pod 5, which doesn’t have a blanket. If you get the Pod 5 with the additional blanket, this is called the Pod 5 Plus, and the third version is the most expensive. This is the Pod 5 Ultra, which in addition to the blanket also has the height adjustable base, like I have right here. This base is supposed to help with snoring, and also has built-in speakers that can play soundscapes or meditation guidance by Andrew Huberman. To reduce your snoring, the Pod 5 Ultra will slightly elevate the position of your head when you start snoring, which has been found to reduce the snoring and can be used as one way to lessen the negative effects of sleep apnea. The main change the Pod 5 introduces is of course that a temperature regulated blanket can now be attached directly to the Pod 5, which has the same cooling and heating functionalities as the Pod’s mattress surface. The temperature of the blanket is the same as the temperature of the mattress surface. This way you have 360° temperature coverage, so you will get a uniform temperature all around your body, which in effect doubles the heating and cooling efficiency. The Pod 5 Ultra now also has built-in speakers within the adjustable base, offering customizable soundscapes, guided meditation, and audio alarms. And finally the Pod 5 Ultra features new physical "Tap-to-Control" buttons directly on the mattress cover for quick temperature changes and other functions. My opinions are my own.
