Off to a great start on our annual fishing trip to the Morvern region of the Scottish Highlands. We kicked off our journey in the afternoon, driving nearly four hours through winding roads and breathtaking scenery until we reached our cottage—nestled deep in a remote corner of the Highlands. The location is truly impressive surrounded by wild nature. After settling into the cottage and grabbing a late lunch, we wasted no time and set off for our first evening fishing session. It was another 30 to 40 minutes of driving, this time on narrow single-track roads, weaving through wild landscapes that seemed untouched by time. The scenery was simply stunning—vast moors, dense forests, and misty hills—but the weather had other plans. We were met with persistent drizzle and a stubborn grey sky, yet spirits remained high within the group. Once we reached our fishing spot, we dove right in, full of energy and anticipation. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long—I had my first fish hooked in no time, and the action didn’t stop there. Fish after fish kept taking the flies, and I found myself in a steady rhythm, fully immersed in the moment. Despite the damp and chill, we were having a brilliant time. Eventually, midges made their presence known, and they came in sheer numbers. It didn’t take long before they had us retreating, scratching our arms and necks while laughing about our hasty escape. By then, though, the session had already been a success. Each of us had caught over half a dozen fish, and the sheer joy of being out there—surrounded by the wild, watching deer wander nearby and hearing nothing but nature—made for an unforgettable first day. We headed back to the cottage feeling satisfied after a brilliant first evening on the water. After settling in, we enjoyed a nice dinner together and relaxed into a cosy night with the fire on, sharing stories from the session and warming up with a cup of green tea. It was the perfect way to end the day—simple, peaceful, and thoroughly enjoyable. A successful evening fishing session followed by a calm and comfortable night in the Highlands… a great start to what promises to be another memorable trip.
