Today we're going over where every sensor and solenoid is located on a modern Subaru 2.5L boxer engine. We'll review the MAF, MAP, coolant temp sensor, throttle body, knock sensor, cam sensor, crank sensor, oil temp sensor, purge control solenoid valve, egr valve, ignition coil, injectors and variable valve timing or VVT valves. This specific vehicle is a 2010 Impreza. You can use this guide for your older Subaru up to more recent models. ► Subscribe: / carsntoys ►► Tools: https://www.amazon.com/shop/carsntoys ►►► Subaru Repair Playlist: • Subaru Maintenance and Repair Chapters: 0:00 - Intro 1:01 - MAF, MAP, EGR & throttle body 1:48 - Knock, Coolant temp, camshaft & crankshaft sensors 2:32 - Oil temp sensor & purge control solenoid valve 3:01 - Ignition coil, wires and injectors 3:58 - VVT or variable valve timing Subaru Mass Air Flow or MAF Sensor trouble codes: P0101, P0102, P0103 The MAF sensor measures the amount of intake air. Symptoms of a failed MAF sensor include improper idling, engine stalls and overall poor driving performance. Subaru Intake Air Temperature sensor or IAT Sensor trouble codes: P0111, P0112, P0113 IAT sensor measures the temperature of intake air. Symptoms of a failed IAT sensor include improper idling, engine stalls and overall poor driving performance. Subaru Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor or MAP sensor trouble codes: P0068, P0107, P0108 MAP sensor measures manifold pressure. Symptoms of a failed MAP sensor include engine stalls, rough idle and poor acceleration. Subaru Engine Coolant Temperature sensor or ECT sensor trouble codes: P0117, P0118, P0125, P0126, P0128 Coolant temperature sensor measures the temperature of the engine coolant. Symptoms of a failed ECT sensor include rough idle, poor performance and the engine not returning to idle. Subaru Throttle Body or Electronic Throttle Control trouble codes: P0122, P0123, P0222, P0223, P0607, P0638, P2101, P2102, P2103, P2109, P2122, P2123, P2127, P2128, P2135, P2138 The throttle body controls how much air to let in to the engine. This correlates with the gas or accelerator pedal inside the vehicle. Symptoms of a failed electronic throttle body include engine surging, hesitation, engine sputter and rough idle. Subaru Knock Sensor trouble codes: P0327, P0328 The knock sensor detects engine vibrations. Symptoms of a failed knock sensor include poor driving and engine knock. Subaru Camshaft Position Sensor or Cam sensor trouble codes: P0340, P0341 The camshaft position sensor detects the position and speed of the camshafts. This is constantly monitored by the vehicles computer for proper timing. Symptoms of a failed cam sensor include engine stalls, rough idle, engine hesitation or engine sputters. Subaru Crankshaft Position Sensor or Crank sensor trouble codes: P0335, P0336 The crankshaft position sensor detects the position and speed of the crankshaft. This is constantly monitored by the vehicles computer for proper timing. Symptoms of a failed crank sensor include engine stalls, rough idle, engine hesitation or engine sputters. Subaru Oil Temperature Sensor trouble codes: P0196, P0197, P0198 The oil temp sensor monitors the temperature of engine oil. Symptoms of a failed oil temp sensor include hard to start engine and improper idling. Subaru Purge Control Solenoid Valve trouble codes: P0458, P0459 and related evap trouble codes The purge valve controls the amount of vapors from the fuel tank to the evap canister. Symptoms of a failed purge valve are sometimes none to engine stalling or hesitation. Subaru Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve or EGR valve trouble codes: P0400, P1498, P1499 The EGR valve controls exhaust gas in to the intake system. This reduces pollutant emissions. Symptoms of a failed EGR valve include poor performance at low speeds and improper idle. Subaru Fuel Injector and ignition coil trouble codes: P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 The fuel injector simply regulates fuel in to the engine. The ignition coil transforms battery voltage to a much higher voltage to operate the spark plugs. Symptoms of a failed fuel injector or ignition coil include engine stalls, rough idle, poor performance. Subaru VVT or Variable Valve Timing trouble codes: P0026, P0028, P0076, P0077, P0082, P0083 The VVT solenoid uses oil pressure to control the opening and closing of intake valves. Symptoms of a failed VVT solenoid include rough idle and poor performance. Note: Any attempt to repair automotive parts and/or systems carries risk of personal injury.
