One of my most local sites is West Midlands Airsoft, also known as HC2 Airsoft. With an impressive 4.8-star rating on Google and plenty of positive reviews, it’s clearly been a popular venue. Unfortunately, this video can’t be a full review, as the site is sadly closing down. But I still wanted to showcase some gameplay and talk a little about my experiences here over the years. I’ve played here multiple times and, while I’ve had a few mixed experiences in the past, the day this footage was recorded was fantastic. The gameplay was excellent and genuinely hard to fault. Like any airsoft site, the overall experience can sometimes depend on the players attending on the day. Occasionally, issues during gameplay can feel like they reflect on the site itself, when in reality they often come down to individual behaviour. There have also been moments where marshal interactions felt a little aggressive, which can be off-putting. But airsoft is a fast-paced, high-awareness environment, and tensions can occasionally run high — at the end of the day, everyone involved is human. For me, the biggest drawback has always been the map layout. The arena is essentially L-shaped, with a major choke point that can make pushing forward extremely difficult, especially with larger player numbers. Because of that, gameplay can sometimes become quite static, with defensive positions and second-floor vantage points that are hard to challenge. Despite that, this site has given me a lot of great experiences. From when I first started airsoft all the way up to now, I’ve made some brilliant memories here. The good news is that a new, much larger site is planned for Wolverhampton, which could solve many of the layout issues and bring something exciting to the local airsoft scene.
