The start of this chapter we see the Lycans tearing through civilians, and it's certainly more impactful when you see the blood flying from them with their claw swings instead of them just falling over. Volf's backhand shockwave is more impactful too since it rips apart his own followers, showing how callous he is right away instead of if they looked like they were just knocked over from it. The Lycans themselves are MUCH weaker in NGII. In Sigma 2/Black, they're kind of like elite enemies, especially the red fur ones. They can be very tanky there, but here, they can go down pretty quickly, so they're more like slightly beefier mooks. There's no Imp enemies in NGII, so we fight A LOT of these guys here, so it's for the best that they're not as ramped up as they are in Sigma 2. Interestingly, the Lycans have a ranged attack that was cut from later versions, where they lob a chunk of a fellow Lycanthrope's body at you. Sometimes it's a head, sometimes it's a whole torso. The torso toss seems to be their strongest attack here so it's something to watch out for. I imagine it was cut because it was too visceral for Sigma 2, but it might have also been to balance their increased damage output by removing their most dangerous attack. Sure took me by surprised when I realized they had that move lol. The body parts can also sometimes flip out and spin like they have the physics of a baseball. We get a sub-weapon that was cut in later versions here, the Gatling Spear Gun. A gatling gun that can only be used underwater. This is primarily used to deal with an enemy type that was also cut, this weird living sea mine enemy that just floats in the water and detonates when you get too close. They got far too carried away with these because there's like 50 of the buggers that keep respawning until they finally stop. It's kind of satisfying to blow away huge hordes of them, but it really loses its luster by the 7th time you're doing it. Probably the best thing that was cut from NGII. 20:45 - I want to point out this cracked door because it's STILL cracked in Sigma 2/Black, but there's just no way to open it. Here, it was a hint to let you know to check in there for a key item to progress. But they cut most key items like that in Sigma 2/Black and made it where the room can't be entered to streamline the game more. I just wish they had closed the damn door because I always thought there was something I was missing and just had couldn't figure out HOW to open it. It's only playing the original I know for sure what it was meant for. Also I guess the notebook on the dead ninja in there was accidentally cut too, I don't remember reading it in Sigma 2 at any rate. Once we get to the big underground waterway where we fight the boss, we can see the ghost fish floating in the background making you think there's a ton of them, but it's really just an effect that moves with you, it's kind of jarring if you pay too close attention to it and realize what it's doing, so I can see why it was cut for Sigma 2. Interestingly, it was brought back for Black however. The boss of the Chapter I had to figure out how to fight without Enma's Fang, I usually just UT spam it with that. Gatling Spear Gun hurts it, but not by much. I found it most effective just to rub up against it and grind its HP down with the Lunar Staff's underwater attack. It's attacks mostly seem to whiff if you do that.
