Tough Paddle to the Erie Canal: Hours in Muck Prijon Grizzly

Movie pt2 Finger Lakes Odyssey. Camping and Kayaking Across the Finger Lakes Region of New York. Arrived at the Erie Canal Boat Ramp. Paddled directly across the Erie Canal to the Seneca River to begin the 9 mile loop around Howland Island (the Island is on my left side the whole way during the video). The Seneca River is a big beautiful River. However it was packed with invasive Water Chestnut Plants and other nasty stuff. This went on for miles. The majority of the paddle was battling thru them. However the scenery made it worth it. Around Howland Island thru the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge thru a small channel that connected the Seneca River to the Erie Canal. Be careful doing this loop. I don't know if the plants and algea I was fighting thru was toxic or if it could be harmful to you. I do know this was a brutal slog that took maximum effort for many hours to get thru. Find out if the area is ok for paddling before trying this. The Seneca River is amazing but it needs help. So do the volunteers that try to care for it. It's a massive job. I have read that the stare dredges sections of this river to clear out these plants that are very harmful to the river, the Wildlife, and people who call it home. Thank you for watching.
