Melodic Funk Rock Bass Jam (Raw Single Take)

Here’s a new funky jam on my Mayones Jabba bass, recorded in one take without digital processing or editing. I used an OC-2 octaver, a Seamoon FX Skye Machine, a Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor, and Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings. The signal was recorded with my Eich T-300 amp into a Focusrite Scarlett into my laptop. I made the drums in Cubase with AD drum samples, no fixed bpm and mostly off grid for a natural feel. After jamming with the drums for a while I recorded this take on it with headphones, it was the first full take after a few tries. I mixed it together in volume balance and mastered it with Ozone, mainly limiting to keep the original sound of the bass and pedals intact. I noticed the recent controversy on some big online players miming their videos and I’m glad it’s being addressed, transparency is what people rightfully want. What’s the use of over-editing a track until it’s “perfect” and then making a video pretending to play that? Besides the mimer’s ego and finances no one benefits from this. Well maybe some people like that kind of music and that’s fine, I can respect that. But a generation of aspiring musicians grew up with unrealistic standards to match, and we’ve been stuck with this lifeless midi computer sound for a while now, so any change would be welcome I’d say. It’s great that the public eye seems to be shifting towards a healthy demand for authenticity, there’s good reason for optimism.
