The Hostess brands (business operation) snack cake was originally purchased by high school chemistry class teacher Roger Bennatti in Blue Hill Maine in 1976 for a high school experiment to see if it would decompose. Still on display at George Stevens Academy, the Twinkie is on display and largely intact. Twinkies contain sorbic acid which fights the growth of mold.
