Stellantis Working On Expanding HEMI® V8 Production

During the 2026 Detroit Auto Show, I had the chance to sit down for a one-on-one conversation with Tim Kuniskis, who now carries one of the longest business cards in the industry. In addition to serving as Ram CEO, Kuniskis has taken on oversight of American Brands, SRT Performance, and North America Marketing and Retail Strategy. Titles aside, the conversation quickly got into territory that really matters to customers, dealers, and enthusiasts alike: engines — specifically, whether Stellantis can realistically build enough HEMI® V8 and HURRICANE I6 engines to meet demand. Right now, the heart of that discussion is the Saltillo Engine Plant in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. That facility produces both versions of the twin-turbo 3.0-liter HURRICANE I6, as well as the 6.4-liter HEMI® BGE V8 used in Ram Heavy Duty trucks. With HEMI production now expanding again to include 5.7-liter, 6.4-liter, and supercharged 6.2-liter variants, Saltillo is carrying a massive workload.
