A damaged propeller wasn’t supposed to shape the mood of this film — but sometimes the landscape decides the story for you. I arrived at Kiln Pit Hill planning to fly the DJI Air 3S, only for a rogue take‑off to end that idea instantly. With the wind biting across Greymare Hill and the light already fading, I reached for the DJI Neo 2 instead, paired only with my phone and the DJI Fly app. What began as a backup plan became the perfect companion for a darker, more mysterious vision. High above the isolated ridge, St Andrew’s Church emerged from the mist like a survivor of centuries. Rebuilt in 1769 on the foundations of a medieval church, it stands alone at 293 metres above sea level — a solitary silhouette against the Northumberland sky. The graveyard holds three stones believed to be early works of sculptor John Graham Lough, their carvings softened by time and weather. But it’s the Hopper Mausoleum that steals the breath. Commissioned in 1752 by Humphrey Hopper in memory of his wife Jane, the structure is unlike anything else in the country: obelisks, scrollwork, shields, statues, and a lanterned dome that feels more like a monument from a gothic novel than a rural hillside. Some historians even debate whether the style fits the date — suggesting it may echo an earlier Hopper from 1663. That ambiguity only deepens its aura. As the Neo 2 circled the mausoleum, the shadows lengthened, and the black‑and‑white grade transformed the scene into something almost supernatural. The hill has always carried whispers: strange lights seen across the moor, the sound of a bell ringing when no service was held, and stories of travellers who felt watched while crossing the ridge at dusk. Greymare Hill itself has long been associated with ghostly sightings — a pale horse said to appear before storms, galloping silently across the skyline. Whether folklore or imagination, Kiln Pit Hill has a way of making you believe in old stories. This film goes live on Friday 13 February 2025 — a fitting date for a place where history, memory, and mystery intertwine. If you enjoy atmospheric drone films, local legends, or the hidden corners of Northumberland, I hope this one draws you in. #StAndrewsChurch #KilnPitHill #HopperMausoleum #DJINeo2 #DroneCinematic #BlackAndWhiteDrone #Northumberland #GreymareHill #ChurchesConservationTrust #DroneFootageUK #Friday13th #GothicAesthetic #UKHistory #DroneFilmmaking #Consett
