Dat eist van een bewerker dat hij ervoor zorgt dat de melodie niet saai wordt behandeld. In mijn bewerking werd ik geinspireerd door vele passages in deze uitermate fraaie melodie waarop ik dan verder kon preluderen. De melancholieke sfeer van tekst en melodie heb ik geprobeerd zoveel mogelijk te vangen. Of dat gelukt is is aan de luisteraar. ORGEL 1754: De Ambtsjonckers van Nijkerk zien dat in hun stad er geld verdient wordt met de teelt van tabak. Er verrijst menig fraai herenhuis in Nijkerk. Nu de financiële middelen er zijn, wordt het tijd voor een nieuw kerkorgel in de Grote- of Sint Catharinakerk. Het oude orgel was in 1673 vernield door Franse soldaten die de kerk gebruikten als hoofdkwartier. Matthijs van Deventer moet het instrument gaan bouwen. In 1756 rond Matthijs van Deventer uit Nijmegen zijn werk af. In een orgelkas met uitbundig houtsnijwerk, gemaakt door de schrijnwerker Andries van Bolder, heeft hij een bijzonder fraaie instrument gebouwd: het grootste dat hij ons na zou laten. Ook nu staat het orgel nog te stralen zeker sinds in 1988 een omvangrijke restauratie werd afgerond. De dispositie es weer de oorspronkelijke, met behoud van een Subbas 16' uit 1910 op het nu vrije pedaal. Het instrument telt 23 stemmen. Het orgel heeft bijzonder heldere fluitregisters, warme prestanten en sterke tongwerken.
