It is divided into two parts, namely: ♦ Part 1 – Effects of Drug Abuse ♦ Part 2 – Preventing Drug Abuse To complete the module, make sure that you study both Part 1 and Part 2. It has three lessons, namely: ♦ Lesson 1 – What Are Addictive and Dangerous Drugs? ♦ Lesson 2 – Are Tobacco and Alcohol Addictive and Dangerous Drugs? ♦ Lesson 3 – The Effects of Drug Abuse You may already have your own thoughts about the problem regarding drugs. But do you know that cigarettes and liquor can also be classified as “drugs?” This is because they contain addictive components such as nicotine and alcohol. This module will explain the different types of addictive and dangerous drugs that are often abused by people. Hi! Have you heard about the problem of addictive drugs in our community? There is an increasing number of Filipinos who have become victims of drug abuse. Thus we need to be informed about drugs and drug abuse. 2 What Will You Learn From This Module? After studying Part 1of this module, you should be able to: ♦ define the terms “addictive and dangerous drugs,” “drug use” and “drug abuse”; ♦ identify and classify the different kinds of addictive and dangerous drugs; ♦ describe how the different kinds of addictive and dangerous drugs are used; ♦ identify the effects of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs on people’s physical and mental health; ♦ explain why tobacco, cigarettes and alcohol should be classified as addictive drugs; and ♦ identify the signs and symptoms of drug abuse.
