A Brief History of Rare: All Games Developed by Rare!

In this video we take a look at the games produced by Rare! Originally starting off as Ashby Computer and Graphics, before becoming Ultimate: Play the Game and then finally becoming Rare in 1985 - produced a variety of titles across many platforms. Their early releases (released under the "Ultimate: Play The Game" brand) targeted the ZX Spectrum home computers, and were nothing short of technological marvels. In the mid 80s, they transitioned to developing for the NES - becoming a top tier developer for the Nintendo platforms - building such classic franchises as Battletoads, Donkey Kong Country, Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark. Rare also produced some very impressive games for the portable Nintendo platforms (Game Boy family, DS, etc), bringing many of their console franchise to the handhelds. In 2002, Rare was acquired by Microsoft and started producing games for the XBox consoles - and have continued to do so, even today. Their games are cherished by millions of gamers worldwide (especially their N64 titles) - and though their output isn't quite as prolific as it used to be - they're still a powerhouse game studio.
