Columbia University Public Safety stresses the importance of crime prevention in the following ways: Three key members of our team are full-time crime prevention specialists who coordinate and administer several important programs available to all members of the Columbia community. Throughout the year, we provide prevention seminars on personal safety, self-defense and the safeguarding of property, to campus organizations and University groups. During orientation week, we offer crime prevention information to incoming students. When new faculty and staff attend orientation, they are informed of good security practices and Public Safety services by a representative of the department.
