In this film by Quentin Clark of Silk Purse Videos, we learn some fantastic tips and techniques for creating a forest garden from scratch. Project Leader Ben Clark and farmer Ed Green have 3 core principles: 1. How to hold more carbon and water in the landscape; 2. How to restore wildlife habitat; 3. How to reconnect people with the natural world and themselves. They explain the concept of a forest garden structure and demonstrate the process of 'lasagne mulching' (or 'sheet composting'). Ben and Ed learnt how to do this on a forest gardening course run by Martin Crawford, the author of the book shown in the film, 'Creating a Forest Garden'. For more information on the book, courses and the Agroforestry Research Trust, please see https://www.agroforestry.co.uk/produc.... This is part 1. In part 2 we return to Ben and Ed to learn how to choose the trees for the canopy layer, how to plant the trees, and planting the under storey layer. We've done 2 previous films on forest gardens: • Growing Edible Berries in a Forest Garden (Growing Edible Berries in a Forest Garden) and • How to Create a Forest Garden (How to Create a Forest Garden).
