Lufthansa Trip Report flying from San Francisco to Frankfurt onboard one of the Lufthansa Boeing 747-8i on a lovely winter day. A comfortable flight from San Francisco to Frankfurt onboard the Queen of the Skies, the Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 intercontinental. The flight was fully booked, and there was not a single empty seat, but even that way, this 10h+ flight was still ok thanks to the bug cabin of the Boeing 747. About our route, we took off from San Francisco towards the Pacific Ocean. A few moments after departure we made an almost 180° turn, heading northeast and started our route to Frankfurt. We flew over California, Nevada, Idaho, and Montana and we entered Canada. Already in the night with everyone sleeping the most amazing thing happened: I looked outside the window and spotted a huge Aurora Borealis. It was there, clearly visible, but nobody saw it. The movies were more interesting. When it disappeared it was time to try to sleep for a while, always with the alarm set for the Sunrise. The Sunrise took place when were overflying the United Kingdom and lasted for around 30 minutes. The crew was about to start the breakfast service so, at least for once, I wasn't the only one enjoying the Sunrise at 36.000 ft. We continued towards The Netherlands and from there we flew on direct course to Frankfurt, where we landed on runway 07R, on time, after a nice approach. Over the Rhein River. About the onboard service, if you are a frequent viewer of the channel you probably know that I have criticized Lufthansa a lot in the recent past for their poor catering service. Well, today I must say that there are some sights of improvement. The meal was bigger than on recent flights, there were 2 meal options, the salad was a proper salad (not just lettuce) and overall, everything was tasty. Special mention to the chicken option: it was really good. Probably the best meal I had on Lufthansa. As you can see, I asked to try the pasta option, so I can give you a better inside, and I must say it wasn't as good as the chicken. It was good, nothing wrong, but the chicken was a higher level. Around 1 hour and a half before landing the crew served the breakfast. In this case, it was a quite big cheese & vegetable baguette, an oats bar and some fresh fruit. As for drinks, they served coffee & juice. It was not a warm breakfast but it was not bad at all. All in all, a great flight with Lufthansa from San Francisco to Frankfurt. Looks like Lufthansa realized that they could not keep their clients what such a bad service they had until my last flight with them. This is the standard that should be applied to all the US flights, but I guess it is only for the west coast ones. Now it's your turn! Have you ever flown with Lufthansa? How was the experience?
