He tours as a soloist, clinician and teacher, traveling the world with the goal of playing music to uplift the world. Joe has the distinction of being a former full-time member of both of the premiere brass groups in the history of their respective fields: Canadian Brass and the avant-garde Meridian Arts Ensemble. Burgstaller was also one of the all-time most popular soloists at Columbia Artists' Community Concerts, performing nearly 60 solo concerts each season with his Joe Burgstaller: The Rafael Méndez Project. He began the cornet at age six, by twelve was improvising jazz and soloing with area bands and at jazz clubs, and at fifteen was the youngest professional in the Virginia Opera Orchestra. Joe was awarded Arizona State University's Inaugural "Distinguished Alumnus Award" and the Inaugural "Outstanding Alumnus Award" from Eastern Music Festival. Mr. Burgstaller teaches at The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD) and is in his second decade as a Yamaha Performing Artist. Hector has toured the world as a featured pianist with the bands of Tito Puente, Mario Bauzá, Steve Turre, Don Byron, Chico OFarrill, Paquito DRivera, Max Roach, and Ray Barretto. During his eight-year association with Barretto, Hectors contributions as pianist, arranger, and composer were fundamental in shaping the sound of the New World Spirit Sextet. He also collaborated as conductor, arranger, and co-composer in the production of many Broadway musicals including "Chronicle of a Death Foretold", Paul Simon's "The Capeman" (1998 Tony nominee for musical score) and "Selena Forever".
