Coach Oliver “Buddy” Pough, from Orangeburg, South Carolina, can easily be regarded as one of the state’s most venerable football coaches. Before taking the reigns as head coach of the South Carolina State University Bulldogs, Pough led Fairfield Central High School to an astounding 15-0 record in 1996. Later, Pough served as an assistant coach under Coach Lou Holtz, at the University of South Carolina. During his time at Carolina, Pough helped mold the Gamecocks into one of the top offensive teams in the southeastern conference. Coach Pough’s first decade as South Carolina State University’s head coach is exemplified by 10 straight winning seasons. Today, Coach Pough is now in his eighteenth season. During his stupendous career, Pough has compiled an overall record of 120-64, and a 94-33 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Coach Buddy Pough is set to become the all-time winningest coach in school history, surpassing Coach Willie E. Jeffries. For success in life, Coach Buddy Pough firmly believes in fairness, hard work, and consistency. But most importantly, Coach Pough believes one should find joy in whatever career path one chooses to pursue.
