The Czechs were ashamed of "Hacha's collaboration", under the guise of false submission, there was a growing desire to take revenge for the partition of the country and many years of humiliation, and perhaps also shame that they did not fight the German occupier. The Czechs' bloody revenge found an outlet in the form of wild and unrestrained violence directed mainly against prisoners of war and defenseless Sudeten Germans. The retaliation was even stronger the more the Czechs realized that it was practically unpunished.
