Novena to Holy Spirit -Day 1 HOLY SPIRIT - the third person of the Holy Trinity Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Holy Spirit, third person of the Holy Trinity, we adore and praise you for being a heavenly advocate to be with us forever, as per the promise of Jesus Christ. O Holy Spirit, you are inseparable from the Father and the Son. You are of the same nature, character and identity with them. Only after three years of walking and talking and knowing, did Jesus introduced the Holy Spirit to the Apostles. He introduced Holy Spirit not as power or force, but as a person, as Paraclete which means “someone called to be beside us”. He introduced Holy Spirit as another helper beside Himself, as a counselor, who will be with them and guide them into all the truth. A person is someone who has intellect, emotions and will. In the first letter to Corinthians 12:11 we read “All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allows to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.” Ephesians 4:30 tells “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God”. Only a person can be grieved. 1 Cor 2:11 says “For what human being knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? So also no one comprehends what is truly God’s except the Spirit of God”. Only those who have intellect can do so. Rom 8:27 we read “And God who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” Scripture tells us that Holy Spirit has mind of His own. Intercessory Prayers 1. O, Holy Spirit you are omnipresent. In Ps. 139:7 the psalmist says “Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there, if I make bed in Sheol you are there… even there your hand shall lead me your right hand shall hold me fast. O Holy Spirit, never depart from us and bless us to experience your presence Everywhere and every time of our lives. For this we pray. Response: Overshadow us with your presence. 2. O Holy Spirit you are Omniscient- all knowing. St. Paul says in 1Cor. 2:10 “For the Spirit searches everything, even the depth of God”. O Holy Spirit help us to relate with you as a friend and constant companion and reveal your plan and purpose that God has made for us to glorify God. For this we pray. Response: Overshadow us with your presence. 3. O Holy Spirit you are Omnipotent-- all powerful. For nothing is impossible with God. When the Spirit of the Lord rushed on Samson, the ropes that were on his arms became like flax that has caught fire and his bonds melted off his hands. When St. Peter preached, 3000 men and women were cut into their hearts. When Peter’s shadow fell on sick people they were healed. O Holy Spirit, overflow in our being and work in us and in our ministries and in all the activities of the Holy Catholic Church with divine power and anointment. For this we pray. Response: - Overshadow us with your presence. 4. O Holy Spirit, you are sovereign and eternal Spirit, who has no beginning and no end. It is you who purify our conscience and teaches us to render true worship to eternal God. Help us to be controlled by you and to be blameless in your sight in words and deeds and activate us with your power to witness you in your kingdom. For this we pray. Let us pray O Triune God, Prophets spoke your word as messages from God and became the mouth piece of God and made them to do extraordinary works in the sight of God and man. You guided the apostles, where to go and what to speak. You inspired people of all generations and languages and nations. You teaches and instructs the faithful who believe in you in astounding way. Help us that we may never resist your promptings and never test you but trust you in our trials and tribulations. Protect us from speaking against you and prevent us from quenching your power and presence from our being. This prayer we make in your Holy name.
