Leafs GM Kyle Dubas, after hinting about his club facing a busy off-season following another early playoff exit got the ball rolling Tuesday, shipping right-winger Kasperi Kapanen and two minor leaguers to the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 15th overall pick in this year’s NHL draft and three players — top prospect Filip Hallander, Toronto-born Evan Rodrigues and defenceman David Warsofsky. Taking Kapanen’s $3.2-million cap hit off the books gives the Leafs more than $7 million of space to sign pending restricted free agents Travis Dermott and Ilya Mikheyev or other free agents on the market. For the Penguins, they get Kapanen — a fast and aggressive forward who can also kill penalties. Will there be more big moves to come for the Leafs? Will the Leafs land another defenceman, their biggest priority of the off-season? Star digital producer Justin Smirlies spoke with hockey reporter Kevin McGran for a quick analysis on the trade in the latest episode of “Indoor Recess.”
