Many vessels in China and Taiwan’s fishing fleets are crewed by migrant workers from the Philippines. They are lured by predatory recruiters with false promises of decent pay, but once onboard, are overworked, abused, and exploited, and forced to partake in illegal fishing practices. Through interviews with Filipino ex-crew, EJF exposes the human rights violations and illegal fishing operations that continue to plague the industry and threaten marine ecosystems worldwide.
