I Turn A Soaking Wet Chunk Of Black Gold And The Gorgeous Figure Explodes In This Walnut Bowl

In this video, I turn a soaking wet crotch blank of black walnut into a stunning bowl with gorgeous figure and grain that explodes. I harvested the blank from deep within the crotch log of a downed tree that I got last summer. Because this piece was so dense, it took many cuts and lots and lots of sheer scraping, but was a joy to turn. The bowl has warped and the wood has moved so beautifully and will continue to do so. The bowl is visually pleasing, but the feel of the texture that the figured wood has as it distorts is the most pleasing in my opinion. I hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed making it. Have a nice day. 😊 Rob, Copper Owl Woodturning ------------------------------------------------- BE A GOOD HUMAN ------------------------------------------------- Wood: American Black Walnut – sawn from wet log Dimensions: 7” x 7-1/4” at top x 2-1/4” ↑ 3/16” wall thickness 1/4” bottom thickness Conversion: 1 inch = 25.4mm ------------------------------------------------- Sanded all with 150grit – 320grit sandpaper on the lathe Applied a paste of beeswax and mineral oil to slow the drying process and to get a sneak peek at the grain Let dry in house for 2 weeks Put back on the lathe and used ACK’S Abrasive Sanding Paste for the softest feel Followed by ACK’S Polish/Restoring Paste for the warmest sheen ------------------------------------------------- Sticker swap pals and channel shoutouts: Please check out these channels and subscribe.
