Gregor Kiczales presents as part of the UBC Department of Computer Science's Faculty Lecture Series, January 26, 2012. The main goal of CPSC 110 is to provide all UBC students with a solid foundation in systematic design and programming fundamentals. The course is now in its second year of full scale operation: 700 students have completed the course and 490 are currently enrolled for this term. This talk will present an overview of 110, with an eye to how it affects the remainder of our courses and other parts of the department. Topics covered will include: Who takes 110 Main learning goals Example design problems 110 students can solve Example labs What they learn about other parts of the field Initial thoughts about how downstream courses might want to adapt Overview of survey data Course operational issues (TAs, labs etc.)
