Here’s my copy of Clear Blue Sky, released in October 1970 on Vertigo Records (6360 013). The band came out of Acton, London, and recorded this while still in their teens. It’s one of the earliest and heaviest albums on the Vertigo swirl label - a mix of hard rock, progressive structure, and heavy psychedelic fuzz. The sound is raw and explosive, but also ambitious. Long jams, tempo shifts, and massive guitar tone give it the feel of a proto-metal blueprint. It bridges that gap between late 60s UK psychedelia and the heavy underground scene that followed. Collectors often call it one of the hidden treasures of the Vertigo catalog. Journey to the Inside of the Sun takes up the whole first side with a sprawling 18-minute jam, while My Heaven and Birdcatcher show a more progressive side. Roger Dean’s cover art perfectly captures the music’s mix of mystery and muscle. Ripped from my original UK Vertigo swirl gatefold copy.
