The trio houses a dynamically creative, exciting, and fresh sound, spanning multiple influences from all of its members. It is particularly the juxtaposition of classical and jazz music in their arrangements that have made this ensemble stand out and gain international recognition. Regular tours to the Far East, Europe and perfor- mances throughout Southern Africa make up the annual schedule of this ensemble. The trio has recorded seven albums and two DVDs and has an international recording contract with Swiss label Claves. These have been awarded multiple prizes, including two South African Music Awards (SAMA), a Ghoema and Fiësta. The trio was formed 12 years ago with the aim to promote crossover and jazz music, fuelled by an undeniable musical chemistry and understanding of each other’s musical personalities. Their sound is captivating and exciting, and always strives to be fresh, original, and moving. Charl du Plessis is a Steinway Artist, a Claves recording artist and the first person in history to play a grand piano on top of Table Mountain. He has performed in Berlin’s Philharmonie, London’s Royal Albert Hall and Shanghai’s Cultural Arts Centre. As a doctor in piano performance he annually performs in more than 130 concerts from the international concert platform, with orchestras, musical productions and even as collaborative pianist for Nataniël. Werner Spies is a celebrated and versatile bass player, educator and young entrepreneur. He is a music lecturer at the Tshwane University of Technology. As freelance musician he is in constant demand in big music productions and as the member of various bands. He is the co-owner of Halloa Coffee - a successful chain of designer coffee shops in Pretoria. Peter Auret ranks as one of Gauteng’s most sought after jazz drummers. He is highly regarded as a recording engineer and producer and owns Sumo Sound Recording Studios in Johannesburg. For his work as producer and recording engineer Peter has received a SAMA award for best recording engineer.
