Grocery Prices in Japan Q1 2025. Cost of living in Japan supermarket walkthrough.

In this video I literally walk through a supermarket and check the prices of various groceries. I then edited the video to show the USD conversation. I was asked to talk about the cost of living in Japan by a viewer a few weeks again so I thought I’d show it instead of talking about it. Electricity, gas and water, I’ll do another video at sown point. One very important staple is missing in this video, rice. Rice has doubled in the last year from ¥2,000 yen ( $13.30) to over ¥4,000 ($26.60 for 5 kilos. Rice is eaten almost 3 times a day by the average Japanese. The reason for the rice price surge: Poor Harvests: A poor harvest in the summer of 2023, due to high temperatures, reduced the amount of rice available for distribution. Increased Demand: A sharp rise in foreign tourists has also driven up rice consumption at restaurants. Stockpiling: The government released emergency reserves to stabilize distribution, but the price-lowering effect has yet to appear. #costoflivinginjapan #japanvlog #japanlife
